Understanding the Basics of Chemistry

Understanding the Basics of ChemistryTo understand why the basic elements of chemistry are often considered the absolute cornerstone of modern day life, one must first define the basic elements in chemistry. It is all too easy to get into a scenario where we might start to get confused as to which substances go with which elements. With a little work and investigation you will be able to understand the differences between each of the different elements in science.Water is without a doubt the most commonly used and recognized element as it is the primary components of almost all other substances. The reason water is considered so important is because it is the catalyst that can break down many chemical reactions in order to yield a more efficient method. This makes water quite powerful and useful for most industries in the world.Oil, on the other hand, consists of a variety of volatile solids and molecules and thus provides a distinct advantage over water when it comes to working in i ndustry. Oil is not only capable of standing on its own but can also provide many benefits such as air filtration and purification. It is also considered to be the most effective solvent when used for different industrial purposes.Nitrogen is the major component of most substances that are commonly found within the environment. Although nitrogen is actually the weakest element in chemistry, it is also one of the most plentiful, especially when it comes to organic material. It is used in industries such as fertilizers and pesticides and is important for the supply of oxygen in the environment.Lithium is another element that is commonly used in industries such as automobiles. Unlike some other chemicals which are responsible for harmful environmental effects, lithium is very helpful when it comes to prolonging engine running time. Some studies have been conducted to prove that lithium can actually extend the life span of a vehicle by as much as 4 years. And beryllium is also extremely helpful for all kinds of industrial purposes. This element is very useful in providing the appropriate amount of power to certain types of vehicles in order to help them run faster. Beryllium is also frequently used in energy sources and has been proven to provide benefits such as radiation shielding.Mercury is an element that is actually quite simple to work with and is therefore very popular with many industries and homeowners alike. It is said to be the only element that is completely harmless when taken in small quantities. There is not too much research concerning the effects of mercury, but there is some controversy over its toxicity and some tests that have been performed have indicated that the element is even able to decrease one's body weight. As mentioned previously, it is imperative that the primary base elements in chemistry are known in order to properly understand how to begin a career in the field. While most of these elements are easily identified, others have so far remained unknown. These elements should be included in every study course that is being taken.

After School Activities 5 Tips to Help Your Child Socialize

After School Activities 5 Tips to Help Your Child Socialize After School Activities: Help Your Child Socialize With These 5 Tips Socialization is so important to the healthy development of a young child. However, most school districts have increasingly stringent goals that need to be met including test scores and general educational benchmarks. As a result, teachers are spending more time on core subjects and less time on socialization and structured play. As kids progress through elementary school, they will also be expected to spend more time on homework than the previous generations. The good news is that there are lots of fun and creative after school activities that encourage socialization at a young age. 1.   Time at the playground Taking a child to the park or playground seems like a simple after school activity, but its one of the most useful things students can do between the ages of K through 2nd grade. Each student will have had a different upbringing from birth to 5 and will come to kindergarten with a different set of social skills. Some kids will live in a neighborhood full of other children their age or have several siblings in the household. Other children may not have had as much of an opportunity to socialize or attend preschool as their counterparts. Time at the playground teaches children to learn how to share the equipment and get along with other children they dont already know in a semi-structured but supervised environment. 2. A non-competitive sports team Some sports leagues are highly competitive and are fantastic for students who want to refine their athletic skills or compete to win. Alternatively, there are several non-competitive sports teams that primarily develop social skills and general physical education. This second type of activity is great for kids who need more of an opportunity to socialize. The coaches and volunteers will keep the environment structured and make sure everything works out OK, but the kids have an opportunity to learn a skill while depending on each other for support. The focus isnt so much on winning but experiencing an organized form of socialization that is essential to a childs overall upbringing (READ: After School Activities: 5 Ways to Tear Your Kid Away From the TV). 3. Community service Volunteering isnt just for high school students who need to complete units to apply to college. Rather, community service activities are a fantastic way for younger kids to learn how to get along with their fellow human beings. Whether students are helping out at a bake sale that benefits their school or working with members of the community who need some extra TLC, volunteerism helps teach empathy and encourages youngsters to work together for the greater good. 4. Play dates Kids often ask to have play dates with their best friends at school or in the neighborhood. Its great to have time for close friends, but its also important for kids to get to know others their age who they havent met yet. Many communities have scheduled activities that any child can participate in on an official or unofficial basis. Whether a parent arranges for kids to spend a little bit of time with each other after school completing a craft, playing outside, or joining in on a community event, play dates are one of the most important yet simple ways young kids can learn how to socialize. 5. Arts and crafts Many community centers offer arts and craft classes with a hands-on approach. Although kids will take home their individual art projects, these types of after school activities allow for a higher level of socialization that isnt always allowed in the classroom. Children will have the opportunity to converse and collaborate in an environment where they get to give and take feedback on how to complete their creative endeavor. Uloop Morning Mix August 21

Uloop Morning Mix August 21 Locutus Borg via Wikimedia CommonsAs you probably have heard,  a total solar eclipse will cross the full U.S. for the first time since 1918. Only certain parts of the country will get the total effect, but almost everyone is going to see something today. NASA put together a series of maps detailing which states  will have the best views. The University of Georgia  campus will have a 99% eclipse, heres what they are doing to prepare. DONT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE ECLIPSE, DUH You gotta have the right glasses! (Image via YouTube) As your Mom has probably already texted you about 10 times, Dont look at the Eclipse. Be careful you dont want to go blind! (Sun emoji, sunglasses emoji, heart emoji). But shes right, the sun can cook your eyes.   That means you need some special glasses, which are selling like crazy. Any on your campus? The Eclipse is causing millions of people to travel to get a good view. About 12 million people live directly in the path of totality; experts estimate they could be joined by about 7.4 million people traveling to watch the eclipse. That could make for some serious traffic and clogged cellular networks reports FiveThirtyEight. And it could cause some serious problems for first responders. Be safe out there today. And if all seems like a lot of work, Fast Company has 10 ways you can stream the eclipse from your computer or phone. SUSPECT IN BARCELONA ATTACKS HAS BEEN NAMED Sign that appeared at vigil for Barcelona victims over the weekend (image: YouTube) Spanish police named a suspect who they  believe was the driver of a van which ploughed into dozens of people in Barcelona, killing 13 and injuring hundreds. A search for  Younes Abouyaaqoub, 22, is taking place across Europe today. The members of the citys most famous sports team, did their part, wearing black armbands and holding a tribute to victims before kickoff.  â€œReturning to normality is a way of defeating those who want to disrupt normal life. Football is part of that,” the Catalonian president, Carles Puigdemont, told the Guardian. AND FINALLY, CAN YOU GET THROUGH COLLEGE WITHOUT TAKING NOTES? (Image via Pexels) Um, maybe?  Ian  Acosta  from the University of Illinois asks four questions that will help you decide whether you even need to spend time taking notes, whether you write them in a notebook old-school style or use your laptop and a program like Evernote. Find out if you are a note person right here.   That was painless right? You might have even learned a thing or two. Happy Eclipse Day!

The Chemistry Behind Advanced Chemistry

The Chemistry Behind Advanced ChemistryThe key to advanced chemistry is understanding the concepts of a reaction, learning how to manipulate substances using a catalytic cycle, and basic understanding of the common elements in the periodic table. These four major ideas have served as the basis for the chemical and biological understanding of a reaction ever since it was first discovered by the ancient Chinese and the early Indians. Though these basic concepts have come to us through time and are taught in various colleges and universities around the world, most chemistry students often tend to leave off from these basic fundamentals while learning about reactions. In short, the catalyst and catalytic cycle are based on simple laboratory experiments conducted by the Greeks. Later, chemists came up with a number of different theories to explain why the catalyst formed the reaction between the reactive chemicals and elements and the process to improve the outcome. Today, there are many d ifferent reactions taking place in your body as you go about your daily life. One of the main reactions you are likely to experience in your body is the metabolism of proteins into glucose, which you consume as a form of energy during your daily activities. Of course, other reactions that take place in your body are the breakdown of proteins into simpler forms that can be broken down further by our enzymes. When you take a look at the rest of the periodic table of the elements, you will notice that there are some very common elements present in them. Those compounds that contain oxygen, sodium, potassium, calcium, and other basic elements are considered to be alkaline, such as carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and carbon monoxide. Other common compounds are bases, which contain the elements that are acidic such as bicarbonate and hydrochloric acid. When you learn about the reactions between the reactants, one of the most basic parts of the reaction is the oxidation of the element, such as mag nesium, aluminum, iron, or any other metal. The amount of free radicals that occur depends on the strength of the reaction between the reactants. However, one more important idea that you need to grasp is the fact that the oxidation produces a reaction. This means that if you let the free radicals build up, they will eventually produce an even stronger reaction that will end up with burning your skin or whatever else you may be holding in your hand. The formation of oxidation can also be seen as the result of an increase in the temperature in a reaction. Once the temperature gets too high, the material changes from a solid state to a gas, which can actually cause it to dissolve in water. The formation of water as a result of this high temperature causes the reactants to change in another way. They form either a solid or a liquid. However, if the temperature continues to get too high, the solid will eventually break down and the liquid will then take its place.Let's say that you want to prevent the oxidation reaction from taking place. You will want to use the oxidation product, such as mercury, to stop the reaction. If you have done your research, you should know that there are many chemical compounds which will react with the substance that you want to keep away. This is why you need to be able to find the right compound for you to prevent the oxidation from happening.Another idea that you must understand is that of the two-phase reaction. What you will be interested in knowing is the two-phase reaction process, which happens when a substance is exposed to a second phase. As a matter of fact, you should have already understood this by now. It's important to know that one of the two phases that has been created in the first phase will combine with the first phase, turning into something else, called the product. You will need to be able to understand the reactions between the two products, the base and the product, before you can actually realize how this works .

Improvisation Classes

Improvisation Classes Learn How To Act Through Improvisation ChaptersIf I Want To Learn To Act Do I Need To Learn How To Improvise? How Can I Improve My Acting Techniques, Such As Improvisation?Improvisation is not a new invention, despite its popularity today. In fact, improvisation has been around for hundreds of years, even forming part of the Commedia dell’Arte in Italy during the sixteenth century. In essence, improvisation describes a performance in which the actors’ responses are unplanned, as there is often little to no script to go by. Instead, actors play off each other, their characters, and their environment in real time to develop a plot and advance a story forward. Not only is improvisation a popular performance form, but it is also a useful skill for an actor to have. This is because improvisation can help an actor create a better-rounded and believable character. Additionally, improvisation may produce moments that scriptwriters may not have thought of that make a performance shine that little bit brighter. So, if you’re new to acting and wondering where to start, or you’re looking you further develop your acting skills, learning a few things about improvisation (known as “improv” for short) can really help you improve your craft as an actor. This article outlines the benefits of learning improvisation  and where you can develop your improvisation skills.Improv classes tend to be more closely associated with comedy and comedy classes than tragedy, although that's not to say that improvisation skills aren't useful to learn in an acting class for reasons other than comedy. (Image Source: CC0 1.0, Clker-Free-Vector-Images, Pixabay)Robert De Niro’s “You talkin' to me?” line in the 1976 film Taxi Driver; andThe “You're gonna need a bigger boat” line in the 1975 film Jaws. While improvisation is a highly recognised skill in the world of acting, it’s worth noting that not all actors are as reliant on improvisation, as they may prefer to use other acting techniques when performing their craft. S o, while knowing improvisation may benefit you as an actor, for example when it comes to standing out during castings, don’t feel as though you absolutely must be an expert in improvisation in order to progress as an actor.Although improvisation can be a wonderful skill to add to your repertoire if you are taking acting classes, or developing your talents as an actor, it’s equally important to realise that improvisation isn’t just a skill used by actors. For example, improvisation is also commonly seen in other mediums and is particularly well-known for its use within the realm of comedy, such as stand up and other forms of live comedy. Many notable comics, such as Robin Williams, were highly regarded for their improvisation skills and often made improvisation a core part of their routines. This not only highlighted the creativity of the comedians but also made the audience laugh and helped them to enjoy watching the comic perform on stage. While comedic performances, sketch come dy, and acting are the most common areas people associate with improvisation, it can also be a useful skill to have in day-to-day life. It’s not uncommon, for instance, for improvisation classes to be offered to people as diverse as:School-age students; andProfessionals in business. The reason why improv classes and workshops can really help such diverse groups of people is that they can help develop a variety of skills that are useful in daily life. For example, improvisation classes for businesses may help team members develop and showcase their listening, speaking, and all-round communication skills, as you need to think on your feet to respond to the person you’re performing with.Similarly, improvisation can be a great way to develop your creative skills, as well as the ability to think on your feet.An improv class or a different type of  acting workshop can be a great way to help develop your creativity and boost your confidence as an actor. (Image Source: CC0 1.0, Free-Photo s, Pixabay)How Can I Improve My Acting Techniques, Such As Improvisation? There are a number of different ways you can improve your fundamental improvisation skills. One of the most common ways of developing your improvisation techniques is to attend an improvisation class or workshop, either one that’s specifically designed for actors or one that is also designed to appeal to members of the general public. There are numerous classes available in the UK that accept a range of ability levels, regardless of whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned performer. For instance, the Free Association in London is just one example of where you might go to improve your improv.Aside from attending classes, there are other ways you can get better at improvising. For example, you could:Watch shows and films that feature actors and comedians that are famous for their improvisation skills, such as Kristen Wiig, Steve Carell, and Will Ferrell;Attend comedy nights, a comedy festival, a comedy c lass, or other events where improvisational comedy is being performed; andPlay or watch improv games such as Whose Line Is It Anyway? In essence, the more that you can immerse yourself in the world of improvisation, and practice improvisation as a participant rather than as an observer, the more your skills should hopefully develop.Where Can I Find Improvisation Drama Lessons? There are improvisation drama classes near me across the UK, so you should be able to find a class near you with relative ease, particularly if you live in a major city. When looking for an improv comedy class or general improv class try and find one that has a good reputation and has received positive feedback from previous course attendees, as these are generally good indicators of the quality of the course. It’s also worth bearing in mind that what you will be taught on an improvisation course may well depend on the type of course (e.g. whether it’s designed for absolute beginners or more experienced perfo rmers) as well as the instructor running the course.Generally speaking though, you’re likely to work through a variety of games, exercises and performances over the course of an improvisation class, all while having the chance to meet new people and potentially make new friends. If you’re unsure of what the class’ content is exactly and would like to find out, or if you'd like to know if the course is an intensive one, always try to speak to the course provider and ask for further details.Improv classes can really help boost your confidence as a performer, and can really help those looking to learn how to act or get into comedy, including stand up comedy. (Image Source: CC0 1.0, Alexas_Fotos, Pixabay)Don’t Be AfraidSome people may feel put off from attending an improvisation class for fear that they may look silly doing improvisation exercises or that they’ll make a fool out of themselves.Don’t be!The main thing to remember is that everyone at an improvisation class is th ere to learn more about improvisation and improve their skills, so you’re all in the same boat.If you’re able to let go of any fears that you may have and embrace the experience and the laughter that should follow, then you should find that you get more out of the class, and you’ll maybe even have fun while doing so!If you want to learn more about improvisation, but are still struggling to find a course that’s right for you, why not consider hiring a drama tutor who can help you with improv?Superprof has a wide network of tutors for a variety of subjects, including acting, meaning that you should be able to find a tutor near you that is able to offer one to one, group, workshop, or online acting lessons. So, whether you’d like to learn improvisation in order to:Perform better during castings and auditions;Develop your acting skills and confidence in a supportive environment;Get better at improv comedy or sketch performances; orImprove your comedic timing,A Superprof tutor m ay be able to help you! Given that tutors can offer greater flexibility when it comes to class availability, and may also be more competitive when it comes to pricing, you might be surprised at how well drama tuition could work for you.
